The iPhone Duo reaches buyers on October 23, and Matt Talks Tech is already on the sequel. The channel's case is that Apple plans foldables years ahead, so the second one is being shaped now, and the first Duo's weak spots are plain enough to list before anyone has lived with it.
Cameras top the list. The outer selfie camera is 12MP, two generations behind the 18MP front camera on the iPhone 17 and 18 Pro, and Apple hasn't published a resolution for the camera under the inner display. The 48MP main camera, the channel argues, is the sensor from the iPhone 16 and the 17e rather than the 17's; MacRumors reads it as closest to the 17e. Only the ultra wide comes from the 18 Pro. Then Touch ID in the side button where the channel expects some buyers to want Face ID, and the battery: Apple rates 31 hours of video on the inner screen against 45 for the 18 Pro Max.
The channel's own forecast is modest. A Duo 2 in September 2027 with a tweaked body (today's cases probably won't fit), better rear cameras, more battery, and possibly Face ID on the front. The Duo Max and Duo mini Bloomberg floated get pushed to 2028 at the earliest, on the channel's logic that Apple wants six months of sales data before it commits to a second size.
That's the first-generation pattern in one video: buy the shape now, wait for the fixes. iPhoners who want the telephoto, Face ID, or a bigger screen have a list of what to wait for, and a date no earlier than next fall.
