Troubadour's Modular Case has a trick that makes sense after the first photo: the leather back panel comes out. With the panel installed, it is a full-grain leather case for iPhone 18 Pro or Pro Max. Remove the panel and the side frame becomes a bumper, leaving most of the phone's back visible.

The panel is held by magnets and the raised edges of the bumper. Troubadour says MagSafe accessories can sit in the resulting cavity, closer to the phone instead of stacked over a full case. That makes the two modes more than a cosmetic switch. It could be useful for a wallet or stand that otherwise adds too much thickness to a leather case.

The idea asks a small question of daily use: where does the loose leather panel go when an accessory takes its place? If you swap accessories often, the freedom may be worth carrying that extra piece. If you want one permanently fitted case, the removable part adds a step without much benefit. TechRadar's recent hands-on look focused on the exposed-back option, which is the design's most obvious visual payoff.

The brand says the corresponding iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max models also fit. That is useful for someone keeping last year's phone, though I would still choose the listed size carefully. Troubadour does not give the Modular Case a specific drop rating on its product page, so its raised bumper should not be mistaken for a tested rugged shell.

The modular idea is stronger than another decorative leather finish. I like the almost empty center when the panel is removed; it lets the iPhone's own color participate in the design. The color range runs from Black and Basalt to warmer Tan and Terracotta, with the same case silhouette across the family. The removable panel is the feature to try in person before deciding whether it belongs in a daily setup.
