Most car chargers make the dashboard look like a place to store a gadget. Peak Design's Qi2 Car Mount is a compact magnetic head on a short adjustable arm. The hardware sits low against the dash, and the charging lead drops from the mount rather than being wrapped around a vent clip.

This is the charging version of Peak Design's Car Mount. Its Qi2 pad is rated up to 15W and works with the company's SlimLink system as well as MagSafe phones and cases. The short arm is part of the appeal: it gives the phone a little distance from the mounting point without making it look like a stalk. Peak Design also sells a non-charging model.

The installation decision matters more here than on the Satechi vent charger. Peak Design's mount attaches to a chosen dashboard surface, so check that a flat, safe location exists within reach of a power source. A vent mount is easier to move between cars; an adhesive dash mount makes a cleaner permanent setup.

Before mounting

  • Qi2 phone charging is rated up to 15W
  • A 1 m cable and spare adhesive pad come with the mount
  • A car power adapter is separate unless you choose the adapter bundle

Peak Design shows the head above a center vent and beside another dashboard opening. Both positions keep the phone visible without raising it into the windshield. The modest size of the head is an aesthetic advantage, but it also leaves less room to hide a messy cable route. Plan the cable as carefully as the mount.

I have not driven with this specific mount, so its hold on a rough road still needs a proper test. The choice is about placement: it suits someone willing to give the iPhone a permanent, carefully chosen spot. A removable vent mount remains easier when the same charger has to move between vehicles.
