The MacBook Pro has kept the same shape since 2021. Matt Talks Tech's rundown of seven leaks has the 14-inch and 16-inch redesign arriving with Apple's October 28 event: an OLED panel that responds to touch, with a Dynamic Island where the notch sat. The chips stay put.
The screen and the shell
- Tandem OLED. The panel type from the M4 and M5 iPad Pro, ProMotion included, with a battery gain the video credits to OLED's efficiency.
- Dynamic Island. The camera moves into the screen and notifications gather around it as they do on an iPhone. How tall the cutout sits is still unknown.
- Touchscreen. A first for a Mac. The video expects a macOS switch to turn touch off for anyone who'd rather keep fingerprints off the panel.
- New cooling. A thermal design rebuilt from scratch, possibly adding a vapor chamber beside the fans, which would give the M5 Max more headroom and leave room for later chips.
Inside and around it
- Cellular. The C2 modem and N1 wireless chip from the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Duo, so a data plan replaces the phone hotspot.
- Same silicon. No M6 Pro or M6 Max: the OLED models reuse the chips that went into the mini-LED machines in March.
- An M6 MacBook Pro as well. The base model gets M6 in the 2021 body, the way the M1 and M2 base models stayed in the Touch Bar design.
The chip decision gets the least airtime in the video. To me, it matters most to anyone buying. Matt Talks Tech expects Apple to keep selling the mini-LED MacBook Pro for another generation or two, so the choice between them comes down to screen and shape on identical performance, the same direction the OLED MacBook Pro chip rumors pointed.
What to know
- All of it is leaks, with Bloomberg behind the OLED and touchscreen reports.
- The video puts the earliest sale date at November 7, while its own description says November 6.
- The body gets only 1 to 2 mm thinner, landing between the mini-LED MacBook Pro and the MacBook Neo, so the Pro doesn't turn into an Air.
That makes the M6 base model, still in the 2021 body, the one MacBook Pro in this round with a chip upgrade.
