Twelve South rebuilt its folding charger around open Qi2 instead of Apple's MagSafe program. The ButterFly SE is a 2-in-1 travel charger that gives an iPhone 15W and an Apple Watch 5W, then closes into a 2.4-inch round that weighs 119 grams.

Charging both devices takes one cable: a color-matched one-meter braided USB-C in the box, feeding a 30W or better adapter you supply yourself. Open, it props the phone for StandBy; folded back on itself, it holds the Watch up for Nightstand Mode. AirPods take the 15W pad whenever the phone is off it. The Watch pad carries fast-charge certification per Macworld, and Qi2 means the iPhone side serves Android phones on the standard too.

What works

  • Folds to about AirPods-case size, with the cable in the box
  • 15W Qi2 matches the original ButterFly's MagSafe speed, per Macworld
  • PackHacker's unit resisted the scuffing that wore the original

What to know

  • No wall adapter in the box; it wants 30W or more
  • Two pads only, so AirPods wait while the Watch charges
  • PackHacker found the included pouch too small once the cable joins

PackHacker's Lauren Maternowski scored it 7.4 out of 10 in an August 2025 long-term writeup, with the soft-touch finish holding up where her original ButterFly got "pretty scratched up." Macworld's Simon Jary called it "a great alternative to the original MagSafe ButterFly charger" while warning the finish can still scuff when it rides loose in a bag, and dinging the missing adapter the original included.

The case for it is the suitcase: a complete bedside charger at 119 grams, cable in the pouch beside it. iPhoners already packing a 30W brick are one zip pocket from a working nightstand.
