Carrying M5-generation chips into a new body is less of a letdown than it sounds. Matt Talks Tech's rundown of seven rumored upgrades for the OLED MacBook Pro, which the video also calls MacBook Ultra, expects the redesign to keep the M5 Pro and M5 Max rather than jump to M6. Apple has done it before, the video points out: the first Retina MacBook Pro in 2012 and the Touch Bar model in 2016 both launched on the chips of the models they replaced.

The rest of the list builds on the OLED MacBook Pro and M6 Macs rumors from early October: a tandem OLED panel like the iPad Pro's, touch input, and a Dynamic Island where the notch was. The video adds detail on the body. It expects only a millimeter or two off the thickness, landing somewhere between the mini-LED MacBook Pro and the MacBook Neo, and guesses the weight drops by around 50 grams, with new fans and likely a vapor chamber inside. The seventh rumor is cellular, Apple's C2 modem from the iPhone 18 Pro with eSIM, though the video's own description calls built-in cellular uncertain.

Bloomberg's reporting, which the video leans on, points to an announcement around October 27. The base M5 and M6 models aren't expected to move to the new design, so the standard MacBook Pro keeps its familiar mini-LED body for at least another round.

Touch is the rumor I'd watch hardest. If this chassis really has to last the five chip generations the video expects, macOS has to work for fingers on day one.
