A bigger screen is the iPhone Duo's whole case, and 9to5Mac's comparison treats almost everything else as a wash or a loss. It boils the choice down to a single question: do you mostly watch things on your phone, or make them with it? The Duo answers the first, and the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max answer the second.

Where the Duo pulls ahead
- The inner screen. It's 7.6 inches with 120Hz ProMotion and a nano-texture matte coating, which is only 0.7 inches more than the Pro Max. That small gap is why 9to5Mac pairs the Duo with the 6.3-inch 18 Pro instead, running both on one T-Mobile number through iPhone Handoff.
- Reading and notes. Held open in portrait, documents and notes are easier to work in, and USB-C Apple Pencil support is planned for later.
- Games and video. The bigger display is the main draw, per the video, with split-screen multitasking as an occasional extra rather than a daily habit.
The outer screen is the catch. At 5.4 inches it holds about 90 percent of the 18 Pro's screen area, but its wide, squat shape means Apple had to rearrange the apps and dock, and the video expects to need two hands at times, as it does on the Galaxy Z Fold 8.
Where the Pro Max pulls ahead
- Cameras. A 48MP main camera with variable aperture, an ultra wide, and the telephoto 9to5Mac uses at 4x and 8x every day. The missing zoom is what sent it back from the iPhone Air to a Pro.
- Pro controls. Shutter speed, white balance, and a histogram in the Camera app, none of which the Duo gets, though the video thinks software could bring most of them over.
- Battery. The Duo powers two 120Hz displays in a thinner body, and the video expects it to finish last of the three, while holding its verdict for three months of use.
- Face ID. 9to5Mac never warmed to Touch ID on the iPad and doesn't welcome it back on an iPhone.
Weight is close to a tie with the Pro Max, but the video puts the Duo at about 25 percent heavier than the Fold 8. The iPhone Duo buyer guide reached a similar split from the reader's side.
The camera gap is the one that ages worst. Battery can be judged in three months and the Pencil arrives later, but the missing telephoto stays missing for as long as iPhoners keep the phone.
