Three iPhone Ultra rundowns in three days, and this one is the first to take MagSafe away. Matt Talks Tech's final pre-keynote list keeps the shape everyone agrees on, a 5.5-inch cover screen, a 7.6 to 7.8-inch inner display, 4.5 mm open and 9.5 mm closed, Touch ID in the power button, then parts ways with the others on the magnets: no MagSafe in the chassis, it says, only through a case, the way the iPhone 16e handles it.
That's a real disagreement. The September 9 event preview had MagSafe surviving on the strength of leaked cases, and Bloomberg's read, relayed by MacRumors on September 1, was that every indication points to it being in. Nobody outside Apple knows, and September 9 settles it. The video's other additions are thinner: satellite data for browsing and 720p video through the C2 modem, sourced to nothing in particular, and a pre-order date given as Saturday the 13th, which is a Sunday. The Saturday everyone else has is the 12th, with a release on the 18th.
The line worth keeping is on the camera:
Even though it's got the ultra name, it's not going to have a telephoto camera on it.
The rest matches the roundup of the last iPhone Ultra leaks: a 4,883 mAh battery split across two cells, the A20 Pro on a 2 nm process, the C2 modem and an N2 networking chip, all still rumor. One date in the video is solid because Apple already announced it: the M6 Mac mini and the new Mac Studio ship September 22, and the video floats the Ultra sliding to the same day. The leaked price stays out of this post. If the MagSafe question decides your case budget, wait for the spec sheet on Wednesday before buying either.
