A 7.6-inch inner screen, a 5.4-inch outer one, and a hinge built from more than 100 parts. That's iPhone Duo, Apple's first foldable, the phone that ran through months of iPhone Ultra leaks under the wrong name, introduced in a three-minute film on September 9. Apple's line for it is that the inner display is 50 percent larger than the iPhone 18 Pro Max's, and that open, it's the thinnest iPhone yet.
The film is mostly software. Photos and Safari get the big-picture treatment, two apps sit side by side with swap-and-pair, and Apple TV fills the inner screen while Messages runs beside it. Siri AI does its party trick, finding an artist a friend mentioned in a text and playing the album. The hardware beats are the ones the press release fills in: an A20 Pro under a vapor chamber, dual batteries Apple rates at 31 hours of video on the inner display and 44 on the outer, Grade 5 titanium, IP68, Touch ID on the side button, and eSIM only.
The camera pitch is the fold itself. The 48MP Fusion main camera doubles as a selfie camera with the outer display as the viewfinder, the half-open phone stands as its own tripod, and a FaceTime call can use the front camera and the outer screen so the people on both sides of the phone are in frame. Closed, the thumbnail shows a normal Home Screen on the cover; open, it's Silo playing widescreen, the pocket-iPad shape the folding iPhone mock-up showed back in May.
First-gen Apple hardware is for early adopters, and this is as first-gen as it gets. Pre-orders open October 16, the phone ships October 23 in more than 70 countries on iOS 27.1, and 28 more countries follow a week later.
