Apple Watch, again. The Series 12 and Ultra 4 look like last year's watches, and 9to5Mac still calls them the week's most important hardware, because the change is on the side that touches skin.

The new Health Sensing System reads heart rate every 5 seconds outside a workout and takes HRV every 5 minutes, 24 times more often. Vitals runs all day instead of overnight, and a Readiness score from 1 to 10 folds in sleep, training load, and recovery and moves through the day. All of it needs the new sensor, so a Series 11 on watchOS 27 gets none of it.

Companies like Whoop, I don't really see the need for them anymore.

That's the channel's read. The S11 chip, the first new watch silicon in nearly three years by 9to5Mac's count, carries Audio Intelligence: sound recognition for sirens and a crying baby, automatic Shazam, Live Rewind (a Digital Crown double-press replays the last 15 seconds), and an opt-in Siri Recap scoped by time or place. Apple's line, relayed in the video: raw audio sits in a buffer inside the S11's Secure Enclave, is deleted after processing, and no recording is written. The ladder has rungs: sound recognition wants any iPhone on iOS 27, while Live Rewind and Recap want a Siri AI iPhone, a 15 Pro or newer.

Battery is the Ultra 4's story, 42 to 50 hours in normal use and a 45-hour max workout mode; the Series 12 gets 12 hours from a 15-minute charge, up from 8, plus Ceramic Shield 2. The Apple Watch redesign rumor didn't land, so every band you own still fits. Deliveries start September 18, per 9to5Mac. The new Health app with a health age comes later to any watchOS 27 watch, the upgrade most iPhoners get without buying anything.
