A Korean leaker's blog post says Samsung is considering moving the Galaxy Z TriFold 2 up from its planned 2027 launch. Two sister sites later, on September 16, 9to5Mac had Samsung "rushing" a new trifold in response to the iPhone Duo, which is a lot of certainty to build on one unconfirmed post.
9to5Google picked up the leak on September 14 and is more careful. The exact timeline is unclear, and the report still calls it likely that the 2027 date holds. Its link to the Duo is loose too, saying only that the date might move after Apple's reveal. What the leak claims about the phone itself is modest. Thinner, lighter, and more durable than the first TriFold.
The first TriFold is why a quick sequel would be a gamble. It reached the US in January 2026 and was discontinued about three months later, and 9to5Google has relayed rumors that Samsung sold it at a loss. A second attempt would land against a phone the iPhone Duo foldable forecast already puts at a quarter of the market.
The gap Samsung can't close with a calendar is dust. The iPhone Duo is rated IP68, while Samsung's latest foldable sits at IP48, which 9to5Mac notes leaves it open to grit as fine as sand. That rating was the headline of the iPhone Duo vs Galaxy Z Fold8 comparison, alongside the 53 grams the Fold8 saves.
No date is attached to any of this, and a promise of more durability is not a rating. Until Samsung puts an IP number on the TriFold 2, IP68 is the spec it has to answer.
