Apple pushed a firmware update on Tuesday to a product it has never announced. Version 4A203 is for the Beats 360, the over-ear headphones that have been leaking out of regulatory databases since May. MacRumors' Joe Rossignol reads it as a sign the announcement lands this month.
The trail is unusually complete for something Apple hasn't said a word about. Model A3577 turned up at the FCC in May, then in Brazil's ANATEL database and a UAE registry in August. Retail listings sat on Amazon and reseller sites long enough for MacRumors to pull the name off them before they came down. Then Lamine Yamal and Antonee Robinson were photographed wearing a pair around the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which is not how accidents usually work. Apple worked the same tournament with its AirPods Pro 3 ad.
The design is rounded, oval ear cups with the Beats logo centered on each and telescoping headband arms of the kind AirPods Max uses. The listings claimed IPX4 water and sweat resistance, a fold-flat hinge, and up to 1.75 times more noise cancellation than the 2023 Beats Studio Pro. USB-C charges it, and neither a cable nor an adapter is in the box. A woven ripstop carrying case is.
Cushions are the interesting part. The Performance Knit and UltraPlush ear pads and headbands detach, and they turn up as accessories in colors the headphones themselves don't come in, Volt and Navy among them. On over-ears the pads are a consumable, not a finish, and a pair that sells you new ones is a pair you keep.
Code MacRumors found points at hands-free Siri, with both "Hey Siri" and a bare "Siri" waking it. Between that, the IPX4 rating and the fold-flat hinge, this is aimed at the gym and the airport. Black, Cloud, Sky and Pink are the launch colors.
No event is on the calendar, so the firmware is the closest thing to a date anyone has.
